“Temporal Bridge – Shadows of Milwaukee” – Opening Thursday, June 5.
Art on view: 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at MOWA on the Lake, Artist talk at 6 p.m.
A new photography exhibition, Temporal Bridge – Shadows of Milwaukee, will open to the public on Thursday, June 5 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at MOWA on the Lake, 1840 N. Prospect Ave. This special evening invites viewers to explore the fragile yet profound connections between eras, evoked through photographic works that blend antique processes with a contemporary vision.
At the heart of Temporal Bridge is a body of work created by Eric Baillies using 19th-century photographic processes such as collodion and gelatin glass negatives. These techniques are employed to capture contemporary scenes and subjects using large 8×10” and ultra large 20×24” format plate cameras. The resulting handmade images do more than preserve a moment, they activate it. By embedding the modern world within antique methods, Baillies creates a tangible and temporal shift that invites viewers into a dialogue between eras. The work exists in a space of known unknowns, where time blurs, and the viewer is offered a gateway to endless possibilities and a renewed sense of wonder.
As Ansel Adams famously said, ‘You don’t take a photograph, you make it, a sentiment that has always resonated strongly with Eric and his approach to photography. Temporal Bridge asks: What happens when a city celebrates its creative self and we channel that energy into building community, forging connections, and creating space for growth?
Join MOWA on the Lake for an immersive evening of art, conversation, and community. Light refreshments will be served, and the artist will be present for an artist talk at 6 p.m.
