Milwaukee – Feb. 22, 2024 – Aurora Health Care and the Milwaukee Brewers™ gave a send-off celebration to three young boys and their families before they traveled to American Family Fields of Phoenix to participate in behind-the-scenes experiences throughout the weekend, including the chance to meet Brewers players, participate in warmups, tour the locker room and throw out the first pitch when they’re honored at a Brewers game on Sunday, Feb. 25.

Videos and photos from the send-off can be downloaded here.

Watch their trip to Brewer’s Spring Training unfold live on our Instagram channel! All three patients have experienced health challenges and struggles. Pediatric patients Brandon Krueger (Age: 15 of De Pere, Wis.), Evan Rennicke (Age: 11 of Ixonia, Wis.) and Malakai Kaesermann (Age: 13 of Oconomowoc, Wis.), will be surprised with a trip of a lifetime traveling as VIPs, along with their families, to Brewers™ Spring Training in Phoenix from Feb. 22-25. As part of the VIP trip, the patients, and their families, will meet Brewers™ players, participate in warmups, tour the locker room and throw out the first pitch when they’re honored at a Brewers Spring Training game on Sunday, Feb. 25.

  • Brandon was diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease at age 12 after not growing for almost two years. If having to manage Crohn’s symptoms wasn’t enough, a new liquid diet was a focus to make sure Brandon received enough nutrition to grow and mature. With Brandon back at school and on biologic infusions, he wants to live life like all 15-year-olds, enjoying school, taking family adventures outdoors, playing baseball and getting his driver’s license. His family and friends can’t wait for baseball season to start as “small and mighty” Brandon will be conquering his outfielder position on a local travel baseball team.
  • Evan started having headaches and was diagnosed with medulloblastoma, a cancerous brain tumor in 2022. He spent the last year in aggressive treatment and recently “rang the bell” to signal his last chemo treatment. He is so excited to move beyond being the “cancer kid” and to focus on being an 11-year-old boy again. Some of his treatments and medical equipment would get in the way of him participating in the games he loves. Evan is happy he doesn’t have to worry about wearing protective gear around a port while playing sports. He is most excited to start up baseball season this year to test out his new catching equipment and grow his hair back out!
  • Malakai has undergone a long and complex series of congenital heart surgeries at a young age. Since his last surgery at three years old he’s known the importance of staying healthy. He takes aspirin every day to prevent blood clots and get an annual routine echocardiogram. He can’t wait for baseball season to begin to show his pitching skills off and cheer on his favorite team, the Brew Crew.

These young kids, and their families will be thrilled to extend their love of baseball with VIP access to a sport they play and love. Aurora Health Care, the official health care partner of the Milwaukee Brewers™, and the team are sponsoring the group’s all-expenses-paid trip.
