Home of Mount Caramel Missionary Baptist Church. Recipient of a planning grant in January 2024 from the National Trust for Historic Preservation‘s African American Cultural Heritage Action Fund. “The church represents an excellent example of contextual Modernism, illustrating the Modernist trends of simplification and truth in expression while fitting into its residential surroundings. Funding will support an assessment of the church’s history, physical condition, and building systems to provide detailed guidance and recommendations for future projects,” said the National Trust in making the award. The church was designed by Alonzo Robinson‘s Wisconsin’s first Black architect.
