MILWAUKEE – With BIG EAST play on the horizon, Marquette hosts a pair of nonconference opponents this week at Valley Fields beginning with St. Thomas on Wednesday and ending with Southern Indiana on Saturday. Both matches will stream on ESPN+.

The Golden Eagles are not too familiar with their opponents. It will be the first time in their history that they will face St. Thomas (3-1-2). MU and Southern Indiana (0-1-2) have met just once, a 2-1 overtime win on Nov. 4, 1994.

BY THE NUMBERS

54.5% – Marquette has put 18 of its 33 shots on target which ranks 13th in the NCAA in shot accuracy. Twelve of those on target have found the back of the net.

2 – Marquette has scored multiple goals in four of its five matches (3-0-1).

36.4% – Marquette leads the country in goals per shot attempt. The next closest is UNC Ashville at 29.5%.

TOM UP TOP
After a match without a goal at Wisconsin, Marquette’s 6-foot-2 freshman forward Tomiwa Adewumi was back in the scoring column against Northwestern, bagging his fifth goal in as many games. His five goals is just two shy of the most by an MU player in the last decade.

  • Adewumi was tabbed BIG EAST Offensive and Freshman of the Week on Aug. 31 following a five-point performance (2 G, 1A) at NIU on Aug. 27.
  • Adewumi is the first Marquette freshman in at least the last two decades to score in his first three collegiate matches.
  • The freshman is the first MU player in at least the last two decades to score four goals in the first three games of a season.
  • Adewumi ranks in the Top 15 nationally in total points (7th – 11), points per game (11th – 2.20), total goals (4th – 5) and goals per game (5th – 1.00).
  • Adewumi was tabbed to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Aug. 24 following two goals in the opening week.

PULLING THE STRINGS
With four assists in 2025, Mateo Stoka has already hit that mark through just four matches in 2026. With three in his last two matches, the midfielder ranks fourth nationally in total assists and 13th in assists per game (0.8).

  • The two assists at NIU was the second career two-assist performance for the graduate student.

NOT JUST A GOAL SCORER
Without an assist in during his first season in Milwaukee, Mads Konrad Horgøien has three helpers in the team’s first five games this season. Despite the distribution, the Norweigan’s goal scoring has not suffered. Konrad Horgøien has three goals to go along with his three assists after scoring a team-high six goals in 2025.

  • Konrad Horgøien has two three-point performances in the last three contests.

THE ATTACKING TRIO
Twenty-six of Marquette’s 37 points have come from the trio of Tomiwa Adewumi (11), Mads Konrad Horgøien (9) and Mateo Stoka (6). All three recorded points in each of the Golden Eagles’ first three matches, and at least two have points in all five matches.

  • The trio have attempted 17 of the team’s 33 shots. Nine of those shots have been on frame with each finding the back of the net.

TWO IN THE BAG
With two goals in his first season in 2025, Joey Buchanan matched that total in the last two games netting the game-winner at NIU and scoring the MU’s lone goal at Wisconsin.

  • Buchanan is second on the team in total shots (7) and shots on goal (4) behind team leader Tomiwa Adewumi.

STRONG IN THE NONCONFERENCE
Now in its third season under Head Coach David Korn, Marquette is a combined 13-4-5 in the nonconference which includes a 6-0-2 mark in 2025.

  • The Golden Eagles have lost just one nonconference match in its last 13 (9-1-3).
  • MU’s last nonconference defeat to a non-ranked opponent came on Sept. 15, 2024, a 2-0 loss to UIC.
  • Three of MU’s four nonconference losses under Korn came in have come against ranked opponent (Wisconsin 2x, Northwestern).
