Game On: Supervisor Capriolo Invites Elected Officials and Residents to Pickleball Showdown at Jackson Park
MILWAUKEE – Supervisor Sky Z. Capriolo will join local elected officials and community members on Thursday, August 27, for the inaugural “Play Pickleball with Your Local Politician” event at Jackson Park. Supervisor Sky helped organize the event as part of this season’s Jackson Park Farmers Market programming, bringing elected officials and residents together for an afternoon of pickleball, community, connection, and local engagement.
The event will take place from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Jackson Park pickleball courts, near S. 43rd Street and the Kinnickinnic River Parkway. Community members are invited to participate in a beginner-level tournament for $10 per person. Pre-registration is required.
“When we first started talking about incorporating pickleball into the Jackson Park Farmers Market this season, I suggested a session where the public and their elected officials could play together,” said Supervisor Sky Z. Capriolo. “I think it’s a great analogy for how individuals in our community can work side by side with the people they elect to create wins, both big and small. We’re on the same team, and we all want to make Milwaukee County the best place it can be for everyone who lives here.”
Capriolo invited a wide variety of elected officials from Milwaukee County, the City of Milwaukee, The City of West Allis, the Village of West Milwaukee, the Wisconsin State Legislature and our national representatives.
“I’m excited that so many elected officials took me up on the invitation to play,” said Capriolo. “Some of us are avid players, and some of us have never played before, but the point isn’t about who’s going to win. It’s about sharing these beautiful new courts with residents who are engaged in what happens at the local level in Milwaukee County. I’m looking forward to getting out there, having some fun, and connecting with neighbors.”
Nine local elected officials are scheduled to participate, including:
- Milwaukee County Supervisor Anne O’Connor
- Milwaukee County Supervisor Shawn Rolland
- Milwaukee County Supervisor Sky Z. Capriolo
- Milwaukee County Comptroller Liz Sumner
- Milwaukee Common Council Alder JoCasta Zamarripa
- Milwaukee Common Council Alder Scott Spiker
- Milwaukee Common Council Alder Peter Burgelis
- Wisconsin State Assembly Representative Priscilla Prado
- Village of West Milwaukee President John Stalewski
In addition to the pickleball tournament, attendees can enjoy the Jackson Park Farmers Market, featuring more than 30 local vendors offering fresh produce, prepared foods, beverages, flowers, honey, handmade goods, and more. The market will also include community partner tables, wellness resources, children’s activities, live music, and other family-friendly programming. Residents who do not wish to participate in the tournament are encouraged to attend, enjoy the market, cheer on the players, and connect with their neighbors and local elected officials.
