16th annual Bronzeville Week Celebration Kicks off Tomorrow
Bronzeville Week, an official City of Milwaukee event hosted by Alderwoman Milele A. Coggs now in its 16th year, begins this weekend and will include an entire week of family-friendly events, vendors, and exhibitions that promote health, art, culture, commerce, and a positive atmosphere in the Bronzeville district for all to enjoy.
The festivities begin on Saturday, August 2 at 7:30 a.m. with the HaRUNbee 5K Walk/Run for Healthy Birth Outcomes. The mission of the HaRUNbee Walk/Run is to promote wellness by encouraging families to stay healthy and fit, both mentally and physically. Registration and check-in will begin at 6 a.m. Additional info can be found here. Following the 5K will be The Royal Rhythm Experience taking place from 5 p.m. – 9 p.m. at 2213 N. Dr. MLK Jr., Dr. This will be an evening of music, culture, and community.
On Sunday, August 2, things get underway with the Bronzeville Cultural & Arts Festival taking place from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. along North Ave. between Dr. MLK Jr., Dr. and 7th St. The event will include vendors, food, a youth zone and three stages of entertainment. There will be an outdoor combined service for Empowerment Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to noon on the Gospel Stage at N. Dr. MLK Jr., Dr. and W. North Ave. To finish off the night, there will be an immersive experience at America’s Black Holocaust Museum, 401 W. North Ave., Dear Home – An Ode & a Love Letter to Milwaukee from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. (featuring the photography of Jalayna Muhammad).
Bronzeville Week continues on Monday, August 3 with a variety of events. First for the day is a virtual Just Us and Books with Dannette Justus. The event can be viewed starting at 10 a.m. on the Bronzeville Week Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/BronzevilleWeek/.
The day continues with Bronzeville Lunch & Learn: Leveraging Culture for Economic, Political & Social Impact at Confectionately Yours Café & Bakery, 1920 N. Dr. MLK, Jr., Dr. at noon. Monday’s events conclude with Standing on the Shoulders of Giants: How Halyard Park and Historic Bronzevile Laid The Foundation That We Are Building on Today at America’s Black Holocaust Museum, 401 W. North Ave with the program beginning at 5:30 p.m.
