MILWAUKEE – This month, Senator Dora Drake was appointed to the Wisconsin Legislative Council Study Committee on Cryptocurrency. This bipartisan committee will look at how cryptocurrency staking works, decide if state laws should cover it, and suggest any new rules. It will also explore other ways cryptocurrency is used and may propose laws that support innovation while keeping the public safe.

“My goal with cryptocurrency policy has always been centered on maximizing economic and educational opportunities while protecting Wisconsinites from financial risks. I look forward to working with my legislative colleagues on both sides of the aisle to achieve this goal.” Senator Dora Drake said in a statement.

This comes following Senator Drake’s introduction of the WIN Bill (Senate Bill 951) which would create the Office of Financial Technology Innovation in the Department of Financial Institutions to provide consumer protection, as well as educational and innovation opportunities for Wisconsinites. On February 25th the WIN Bill received a public hearing in the Senate Committee on Utilities, Technology and Tourism laying the groundwork for additional progress. The WIN Bill was the only piece of cryptocurrency policy introduced that prioritized access, education, and economic opportunity for all Wisconsinites to participate in this industry.
