Bronzeville Week, the annual official City of Milwaukee celebration of arts, culture, and commerce in Bronzeville, kicks off on Saturday, August 1 and will run through Saturday, August 8. Alderwoman Milele A. Coggs, who created Bronzeville Week and hosts the event, is delighted to announce this year’s full schedule of events (attached) for the event’s 16th year.

This year’s Bronzeville Week will see the return of local favorites including: The HaRUNbee 5K Run/Walk for Healthy Birth Outcomes on Saturday, August 1; the Bronzeville Cultural & Arts Festival on Sunday, August 2; the Bronzeville Sleepover for Education on Friday, August 7; and the Together We Dream Bronzeville Art Walk on Saturday, August 8, among others.

Additionally, Bronzeville Week will feature new events such as the Dear Home – An Ode & Love Letter to Milwaukee Gallery Night on Sunday, August 2; Rooted ‘N Natural – an indoor-outdoor community experience of open learning, confidence, and healing through natural hair. Food, music, live hair demonstrations, and more on Wednesday, August 5; and the Bronzeville Fashion Show on Thursday, August 6.

“For 16 years, Bronzeville Week has been a showcase of local art, small businesses, history and culture, and this year, like those before, we have worked to blend a variety of crowd-favorite events with new offerings that reflect the current state of Bronzeville and our city,” said Alderwoman Coggs. “I hope the community is as excited as I am about the tremendous schedule of events we have lined up this year, and I encourage everyone to participate in one, or multiple, events as part of this year’s annual celebration.”

Bounded by Garfield Avenue to Center Street, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Drive to 7th Street, the Bronzeville Cultural and Entertainment District is wholly located in the 6th Aldermanic District.

Most Bronzeville Week activities are free and open to the public, while some require advance registration. Several events throughout the week will be held virtually or offer a virtual participation option. All virtual events can be viewed on https://www.facebook.com/BronzevilleWeek/.

Bronzeville Week is hosted by Alderwoman Coggs and is supported by the City of Milwaukee, Historic King Drive BID No. 8, Bader Philanthropies, ThriveOn Collaboration, area businesses, and numerous sponsors, including corporate and philanthropic sectors.
