Senator Ratcliff Responds to Senate Republicans Ending Final Floor Session Without Action on Cost Relief
MADISON, Wis. — Senator Melissa Ratcliff (D-Cottage Grove) released the following statement following the adjournment of the Wisconsin State Senate’s final scheduled floor session of the 2025–2026 legislative term:
“Today, Senate Republicans adjourned the final regular floor session of the year without taking action on meaningful proposals to lower costs for Wisconsin families.
At a time when people across our state are struggling with rising costs—from groceries and gasoline to rent and health care—walking away from the work is unacceptable.
The Republican controlled Senate decided which bills would be added to the calendar for a floor vote and instead of prioritizing solutions that would provide real relief before ending the session they continue to move forward special interest legislation.
Senate Democrats offered several bill amendments in an attempt to negotiate with the majority party and even suggested to extend the session in order to keep fighting for Wisconsin families, but Republicans voted it down.
That decision sends the wrong message to the people we serve.
Our work does not end because Republicans chose to adjourn. Senate Democrats will continue pushing for policies that make life more affordable, strengthen our communities, and move Wisconsin forward.”
As the legislative session concludes, Senator Ratcliff reaffirmed her commitment to advocating for Wisconsin families and holding the majority accountable for inaction. Senator Ratcliff emphasizes that affordability remains a top priority for Senate Democrats, echoing ongoing calls within the caucus to address rising costs facing Wisconsin families.
