Representative Piwowarczyk Introduces Task Force Legislation
MADISON, WI. – Yesterday, Representative Jim Piwowarczyk (R-Town of Erin) released a series of bills relating to Government Efficiency and Modernization.
“Throughout the hearings, we heard the same thing; we are in a day and age where we can modernize government to be more efficient. Today, we are introducing a series of bills to help with that. As a result of these hearings, we are introducing these four bills.”
- LRB 5859: Establishes criteria to measure and hold agencies accountable, so they know what’s working and what needs improvement. This bill doesn’t mean hiring new staff—current employees can handle the workload.
- LRB 6107: Automates systems that keep detailed records and video of every drawing. This actually makes things more transparent and reliable than just having someone watch in person. The new rules would still make sure drawings are random, open to the public, and recorded on video and audio.
- LRB 5444: Establishes a systematic reporting process to inform the Legislature of existing fees and fines set by state statute and agency rule. This bill does not raise any fees or fines; it simply creates an informed Legislature and Executive branch for future decision-making.
- LRB 5950: Establishes a ‘Data Efficiency Study Steering Committee’ which is tasked with contracting with a nonstate, qualified firm to perform a study on data sharing practices between agencies and how Wisconsin can optimize technology to make government more efficient. This builds off and collaborates with the work that is being done currently with the interagency working group from the Governor’s Taskforce on Workforce and AI.
