Blood, Gore, and Indie Film – A conversation with Drew Rosas
The last time I talked to Drew Rosas, he was on the cusp of realizing a childhood dream: his first feature length film, an 80s slasher comedy called Rocky Trails, was set to premiere at the Landmark Oriental Theatre. Rosas and a crew of dedicated friends and colleagues wrote, directed and shot the film over the course of a few months, and completed the film on a shoestring budget.
A retro aesthetic and camp sensibility earned Rocky Trails a steady cult following, and the film was eventually picked up by Troma Entertainment and renamed Blood Junkie. Fresh off the success of his first film, Rosas is teaming up with Troma again for his latest project with writer/director Nick Sommer – a deranged psycho thriller called Billy Club.
Today, Drew talks about this latest project, and we discuss the challenges and rewards of independent filmmaking.
