MILWAUKEE – Coming off its first loss of the season, the Marquette women’s basketball team looks to rebound on its home court, returning to the Al McGuire Center on Friday night to host Bowling Green. Tipoff is set for 6:30 p.m. CT.

Bob Brainerd and Chloe Marotta will be on the call for ESPN+.

THE STARTING FIVE

  • Marquette is coming off its largest defeat since Feb. 5, 2013, a 94-37 loss at No. 3/2 UConn.
  • Friday will mark just the third game ever played between Marquette and Bowling Green, and the first between the teams at the Al. This year’s game is part of a home-and-home that saw the Golden Eagles travel to Ohio last year which resulted in a two-point defeat for MU in mid-December.
  • Friday will be the Golden Eagles’ last game at the Al McGuire Center until hosting Butler on Dec. 7. It is the team’s longest stretch without a home game this season where they are 15-2 under Cara Consuegra.
  • With Lee Volker reaching double-figures in scoring the past two outings, the Golden Eagles’ offense has three of its five starters averaging double digits. Jaidynn Mason lead the team with 15 points per game.
  • Marquette’s strength this season comes in its experience and continuity as the program is the only one in Division I women’s college basketball to return all of its players from the 2024-25 season.

BY THE NUMBERS

2 – While Marquette and Bowling Green have played just twice in their history, both games have been close. Both have resulted in two-point defeats for MU.

18 – In the Golden Eagles’ first two games of the season, they were +17 on second-chance points. Minnesota flipped the script on them in Tuesday loss as MU was -18 in the category.

11.3 – Halle Vice currently leads the BIG EAST in rebounding with 11.3. Nine of those are coming off the defensive end where she also ranks No. 17 nationally.

FLASHING BACK – GAME 3 vs. MINNESOTA

  • Marquette dropped to 4-5 all-time against Minnesota with its loss on Tuesday night.
  • The 43-point defeat was the Marquette’s largest loss since Feb. 5, 2013 at No. 3/2 UConn (94-37).
  • MU was outscored 18-7 on points off turnovers and 20-2 on second-chance points.
  • Lee Volker recorded her 26th game in double figures with 13 points.
  • Olivia Porter joined her with the 12th of her career, scoring 10.

A MATCHUP OF THE BIRDS

The Golden Eagles and Falcons have met just twice in their history but both have been nail-biters. Unfortunately, Marquette has been on the wrong end of both those contests, losing both by two points.

  • Though the margins were the same in both of the previous match-ups the score lines weren’t. On Dec. 20, 1992, both teams scored over a 100 points with the Falcons coming out on top, 105-103 in double overtime.. Last year’s game saw a much more modest score of 64-62.
  • The two sides have yet to meet in Milwaukee with the first occurring in West Lafayette, Ind. and the second in Bowling Green, Ohio.

VICE GRIP

Marquette’s top rebounder a season ago, preseason All-BIG EAST selection Halle Vice has showed not let up on the glass through three games this year. The junior’s 11.3 rebounds per game currently leads the BIG EAST and is 37th nationally.

  • • Vice had double-digit rebounding numbers in her first two outings and missed the mark by just one in her third.
  • • The bulk of Vice’s rebounds have come on the defensive end where she is averaging 9.0 per game which is 17th in the NCAA.

GET TO THE LINE

In each of the Golden Eagles’ first two games, MU attempted at least 18 free throws. At Minnesota, they attempted just three. The charity stripe has been charity for Marquette as the team is shooting 82.5%, the 18th-highest mark in the NCAA this year.

  • Nearly half of MU’s 40 attempts have come from Jaidynn Mason who is 14-of-16 (87.5%).

THEY’RE ALL BACK…WITH ADDITIONS

With fifth years awarded to Abbey Cracknell and Lee Volker, Marquette heads into the 2025-26 season as the only Division I women’s basketball team to return every player from its 2024-25 roster.

  • Of the returners, two are fifth years, six are seniors and five are juniors.
  • Additionally, MU added three players in transfer Jordan Muelemens and freshmen JJ Barnes and Kam Herring.

ONE OF THE BEST IN THE COUNTRY

On Oct. 30, Marquette’s Skylar Forbes was selected to the 2025-26 Jersey Mike’s Naismith Trophy Women’s College Player of the Year Watch List, presented by AXIA Time. The 6-foot-3 junior forward was one of 50 student-athletes named to the watch list.

  • Of the 50 players on the watch list, Forbes is just one of five from outside the Power 4.
