By - Aug 27th, 2026 12:10 pm

The Marquette University men’s basketball team has added transfer Colin Porter (Ashland, Ky./Liberty) to the program for the 2026-27 campaign, head coach Shaka Smart announced Thursday afternoon.

A two-time All-Conference USA Honorable Mention, Porter averaged 11.1 points and 3.4 assists per game during his senior season that saw Liberty claim its second-straight outright CUSA regular season title in 2025-26. He started all 32 games and shot 35.8 percent from the three-point line while finishing first in CUSA in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.7) and ninth in total assists (110). Porter started all 135 games during his four seasons at Liberty and finished among the program’s all-time leaders in career assists (6th, 520) and points scored (27th, 1,209).

“We’re thrilled to be adding the person and player that Colin is,” Smart said. “He’s a strong cultural fit who possesses excellent basketball IQ, poise and maturity. Colin’s shooting, ballhandling and passing will bolster our backcourt immediately.”

Porter has also been stellar in the classroom, garnering three All-CUSA Academic Team honors, the only player in program history to make the team three times. He completed his bachelor’s degree in business administration and a certificate in management and leadership.

As a freshman, Porter was named to the Atlantic Sun Conference All-Freshman Team, the first Liberty freshman to receive that honor. In postseason play, he was selected to the ASUN All-Tournament Team.

Prior to Liberty, Porter scored 1,271 career points and dished out 529 assists in three seasons at Paul G. Blazer High School in Ashland, Ky., where he was an all-state selection as a junior.
