New Officers to Bolster Police Presence in Milwaukee’s Southside Neighborhoods
Alderman Peter Burgelis today welcomed news that additional Milwaukee Police Department (MPD) officers will be assigned to MPD District Six, strengthening coverage and presence in Milwaukee’s Southside neighborhoods. The announcement was made by Police Chief Jeffrey Norman and Patrol Assistant Chief Steven Johnson during the Common Council’s 2026 budget hearing pertaining to MPD. The move aims to enhance both public safety and public confidence, ensuring that residents are safe and feel safe in their communities.
MPD District Six serves much of Milwaukee’s Southside, including residential areas where Ald. Burgelis has championed traffic calming, neighborhood engagement, and investment in public safety resources.
“This is a welcome investment in our residents’ peace of mind,” Ald. Burgelis added. “When police districts have the staffing and support needed, there are numerous benefits including safer streets, stronger community connections, and more.”
The Milwaukee Common Council will continue budget deliberations in the coming weeks, with a focus on maintaining essential city services while addressing residents’ top concerns.
