WSOC Pulls Away For 4-1 Win Over DePaul
The Marquette University men’s soccer team (4-3-2, 0-3-0 BIG EAST) continued a three-match homestand with a 1-0 setback against Xavier (4-3-2, 1-1-1 BIG EAST) on Friday night at Valley Fields.
Both teams got off to a slow start offensively, combining for just five total shots in the opening 45 minutes, none of which were on goal. Marquette’s attack did create five corner kicks, but a couple of quality headers sailed high.Xavier came out aggressively to start the second half and found the back of the net on the first shot on goal of the evening, heading home a long service inside the far post from six yards out. MU, meanwhile, wouldn’t record its first shot on goal until midway through the second half and finished with just three total, the same amount as the Musketeers.
“Tonight was a tough one because we felt like we played much better than we did last week, but unfortunately weren’t rewarded with a positive result,” head coach David Korn said. “The guys had a good week of training and we were able to create a number of half chances, but are just lacking that final detail right now that would turn some of those opportunities into goals.”
UP NEXT: The Golden Eagles continue the non-conference portion of the 2025 schedule on Tuesday, Oct. 7 when the squad hosts UIC at 7 p.m. CT.
