State Legislators Endorse JoCasta Zamarripa WI Secretary of State
MILWAUKE — Today, Milwaukee Alderperson and former State Representative JoCasta Zamarripa announced that her campaign for Secretary of State has been endorsed by 18 current and former Democratic members of the Wisconsin State Legislature.
“I served with JoCasta in the Legislature, and no one works harder to deliver for their constituents,” said former State Representative Peter Barca. “She knows how to navigate tough politics without losing sight of who she’s fighting for.”
“Whether it’s the Capitol or City Hall, JoCasta has always fought for those who don’t have lobbyists,” said Senator Tim Carpenter. “She knows the challenges working families face because she’s lived them—and she’s ready to lead.”
The 18 endorsers span regions and generations of Democratic leadership—each recognizing JoCasta’s historic run as the first Latina to seek statewide office in Wisconsin as an opportunity to energize the party and build a winning coalition in 2026.
“JoCasta knows what it means to build coalitions and make change,” said Representative Tara Johnson. “She’ll use this platform to hold power accountable and uplift the people too often left behind.”
“I’m running for Secretary of State to be a strong voice for all Wisconsinites—from small towns to big cities, from our farmworkers to our frontline workers,” said Zamarripa. “This office may not come with sweeping powers, but it comes with a platform—and I’ll use it to fight for affordable child care, safe and stable housing, and better funding for our public schools.”
Zamarripa’s candidacy comes at a critical moment for Wisconsin. In 2026, voters will decide control of the Governor’s office, State Legislature, and multiple statewide seats. Her historic run—to become the first Latina to hold statewide office—is expected to energize the Democratic coalition and mobilize key communities across the state.
“In a year where everything is on the line, we need candidates who reflect the full diversity and strength of our state,” said Zamarripa. “I’m proud to be a lifelong Democrat, and I know we win when we organize, connect with people where they are, and lead with our values.”
