3rd Annual Back to School Festival Was a Rousing Success!

I want to thank everyone who helped make the 3rd Annual Back to School Festival (held on Sunday, August 24th at Indigenous People’s Park, 7301 W. Courtland Ave.) the huge success that it truly was. The community came out in force, and we had approximately 3,000 attendees for the event!

The attendees enjoyed free food and backpack giveaways, free activities for children and families, a live DJ, health and wellness vendors, a bike raffle giveaway, haircuts and hair braiding, and a dedicated Kids Fun Zone. The Milwaukee Police Department’s 7th District was again our main partner for the festival, and they went above and beyond to help make the event a rousing success.

The festival is truly more than just getting ready for school – it’s about building community, celebrating our youth, and making sure families have what they need to start the school year strong. I want to thank MPD District 7 and the MPD Office of Community Relations, Engagement and Recruitment for helping to create a safe, fun space for everyone in attendance. A team of amazing volunteers, and my legislative assistant Glenda Oatis-McMiller, and Deborah Moore, Common Council – City Clerk’s Office events and outreach coordinator, were also instrumental in making this year’s event a true success.

Walmart and Milwaukee Professional Firefighters Association | IAFF Local 215 also played pivotal roles in making the Back to School Festival special this year.

I would also like to thank these additional partners/sponsors: Northwestern Mutual, the Metropolitan Milwaukee Association of Commerce, VISIT Milwaukee, AT&T, Milwaukee Bucks, Brewers Community Foundation, Inc., Hometown, Bader Philanthropies, Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, Forest County Potawatomi, Kroger/Pick ‘n Save, MWH Law Group, Alderman Mark Chambers, Jr., The Firm Consulting, JJ Fish & Chicken, EZ Rentals, Professional CDL Training, Restaurant Depot, Berrada Properties, Milwaukee County Parks, North Central States Regional Council – Carpenters, Peoples State Bank, Khahra Petroleum, Inc., Silver Spring Liquor, Inc., CH Coakley, City Forward Collective, RJ Harris Photography, Jackson’s Soul Food Redefined, and Southeast Sales Milwaukee.
