Libertarian Party of Wisconsin Condemns Senator Ron Johnson’s Vote to Block Release of Epstein Files
Madison, WI — The Libertarian Party of Wisconsin strongly condemns Senator Ron Johnson’s recent vote to table an amendment that would have required the public release of documents related to Jeffrey Epstein’s criminal activities and government handling of his case. By siding with the political establishment in a narrow 51–49 vote, Senator Johnson has chosen secrecy over transparency, power over accountability, and government protectionism over the people’s right to know the truth. The Epstein case is not merely a sordid scandal of a wealthy predator, it is a glaring indictment of how the most powerful are shielded by institutions that claim to serve justice. Deals were cut, records were buried, and ordinary citizens were left with only fragments of the truth. For decades, libertarians have warned that concentrated political power inevitably serves itself, not the people. Senator Johnson’s decision to block disclosure confirms that lesson once again. Transparency is not a partisan issue. Senators Rand Paul and Josh Hawley, both Republicans, joined Democrats in calling for accountability. Yet Senator Johnson, who has campaigned on being a defender of truth and a check on government corruption, chose to protect the establishment’s wall of secrecy. Such inconsistency undermines both his credibility and the trust of Wisconsin voters who expect their representatives to stand against cover-ups, not participate in them.
