Statement from Milwaukee County Supervisor Jack Eckblad Regarding Tragic Drowning at South Shore Beach
I am deeply saddened to acknowledge the tragic incident that occurred early this morning at South Shore Park. According to the Milwaukee County Sheriff‘s Office, a 24-year-old man drowned while swimming in Lake Michigan around 5:00 a.m. while with friends.
At this time, we are not releasing further details out of respect for the individual’s family and to allow the ongoing investigation to proceed.
My heart goes out to the loved ones of the young man who lost his life. This is an unimaginable loss, and, as a father and a brother, my thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends during this incredibly difficult time.
I urge all residents and visitors to prioritize safety when near the water. As we learn more, I will continue to work with local partners to ensure that South Shore Beach – and all our cherished public spaces – remain as safe as possible.
South Shore Beach is a beloved space in our community, and it is deeply saddening that it was the site of such a tragedy today.
