WAUWATOSA– The Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) celebrated the grand opening of its new cancer research facility on the Milwaukee Regional Medical Center campus on Tuesday, August 5. Rep. Robyn Vining was joined by local elected officials and Governor Evers for the ribbon-cutting ceremony. $10 million of the building cost was approved in the 2019-2021 state budget. Rep. Robyn Vining (D-Wauwatosa) released the following statement:

“Wisconsinites deserve access to state-of-the-art cancer research, treatments, and prevention. With the opening of the new MCW Center for Cancer Discovery, our state is taking a significant step forward in advancing life-saving science, fostering groundbreaking discoveries, and bringing hope to patients and families across Wisconsin.

“The new facility will serve as a hub for innovative research, bringing together leading scientists, clinicians, and community partners to develop cutting-edge therapies and improve cancer outcomes. Located in the heart of Wauwatosa’s growing medical district, the center will focus on translating laboratory discoveries into real-world treatments while addressing disparities in cancer care throughout the state.

“The building is a key piece for MCW to receive a National Cancer Institute (NCI) designation–a prestigious designation given to cancer centers across the country that meet rigorous standards for cancer research and treatment. The State of Wisconsin’s $10M grant for the construction of this project shows the state’s commitment to achieving this NCI designation. I’m committed to this process and grateful for the support from Governor Evers. May this new building be a space of innovation, healing, and progress. Forward, Together!”

Rep. Vining represents the 13th Assembly District, which includes Elm Grove, and parts of Wauwatosa and Brookfield. For more information visit Rep. Vining’s website here.
