Common Council Overrides Mayor’s Veto of File Exempting 4th District from Odd/Even Overnight Parking Restriction

Statement of Alderman Robert J. Bauman July 15, 2025

By - Jul 15th, 2025 11:43 am

Today (Tuesday, July 15), the Common Council unanimously voted to override the Mayor’s veto of file #250078 – a substitute ordinance relating to exceptions to alternate side night parking requirements in the 4th Aldermanic District.

We as Council Members know our districts best, and I thank my colleagues for overriding this veto. I have continuously received many complaints from residents about this parking problem, and I live in the Concordia neighborhood so I have first-hand knowledge of this issue. There are simply more cars than parking spaces.

As I have previously stated, I chose to pursue a district-wide approach for ease of enforcement and so residents could more efficiently understand the new policy rather than trying to decipher complicated maps showing different parking restrictions on a street-by-street basis.

Overnight parking permits will still be required for on-street parking, and all other parking rules will remain in place.
