Brewers Announce Home Run Derby as Part of “25th Season of American Family Field” Celebration
Star-Studded Home Run Derby to Feature Fan Favorites Ryan Braun, Yovani Gallardo, Carlos Gómez, Bill Hall, Corey Hart, Casey McGehee, Nyjer Morgan and Eric Thames; Ed Sedar on the Mound and George Kottaras Catching
MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee Brewers today announced what is certain to be a memorable and highly-competitive addition to the 25th Season of American Family Field Celebration on Friday, July 25 – an Alumni Home Run Derby. The fun and fierce competition will take place after the completion of the Brewers-Marlins game (3:10 p.m. first pitch).
The Home Run Derby will feature notable Brewers alumni team captains Ryan Braun and Carlos Gómez facing off and joined by Yovani Gallardo, Bill Hall, Corey Hart, Casey McGehee, Nyjer Morgan and Eric Thames. Longtime Brewers coach Ed Sedar and alum George Kottaras will serve as the pitching and catching duo. Braun and Gómez will draft their teams “school-yard pick” style and each batter will have two minutes to hit as many home runs as possible to contribute to their team score. The last 30 seconds of their time will feature golden baseballs with each golden ball home run counting as three runs to their total team score. Following the crowning of the winning team, the two players with the highest individual home run scores will compete in the final round of the Derby.
Announced earlier this season, the Brewers will toast to a quarter century at their ballpark, American Family Field, with an array of current and former players participating in activities all day. Home to the Brewers for the past 25 seasons, these walls hold stories and memories galore. To celebrate in style, the Brewers will feature a notable player from each roster year 2001 to 2025 to connect with fans in activities throughout the day. In addition, the Brewers will offer fans special opportunities to save on concessions and retail, as well as other fun activities in the ballpark gameday experience.
Added to the alumni line-up, Ryan Braun, Keon Broxton, Carlos Gómez, Jimmy Nelson, Jace Peterson, Ed Sedar and Randy Wolf will join the previously announced alumni representing the 25 rosters including Bill Hall, J.J. Hardy, Corey Hart, José Hernández, Prince Fielder, Yovani Gallardo, Corey Knebel, Dan Kolb, George Kottaras, Mark Loretta, Casey McGehee, Nyjer Morgan, Mike Moustakas, Ben Sheets, Eric Sogard and Eric Thames.
Participating players will be circulating throughout the ballpark, pouring drinks at various bars, helping ring up items at the retail stores and hosting autograph sessions. Fans should plan to arrive when gates open at 1:40 p.m. to take full advantage of some of the special opportunities, as well as be in their seats for a commemorative pre-game ceremony.
Some of the 25th celebrations include:
- Draft beers for $2.50 until first pitch
- Brats for $2.50 until first pitch
- Alumni autograph sessions are from 1:50 p.m. to 4:35 p.m. Various alumni will be stationed throughout the ballpark. All ages are welcome
- Alumni photo opportunities on the Terrace Level outside of Section 439 from 1:50 p.m. – 4:10 p.m. – take your picture with your favorite former Brewers player
- 25 percent discount on select items at the Brewers Team Store – Home Plate and left-field locations
All activities featuring alumni will be free for fans attending.
