Secretary of State Godlewski Launches Public Records Database to Increase Transparency and Improve Access
Madison, WI – Secretary of State Sarah Godlewski today announced the launch of a new, online, searchable database of public records—marking a major step forward in her office’s commitment to transparency, accessibility, and modernization.
The searchable database is part of the new sos-services.wi.gov portal. It delivers on the public’s right to know and streamlines access to public government documents. In addition to free access, certified copies can be ordered directly through the portal for a small fee, as required by statute.
“Our goal is to have documents available online within ten business days of filing,” Godlewski added. “This kind of real-time access strengthens trust in government by ensuring Wisconsinites can see and understand what’s happening in their state.”
This launch is part of a broader effort by the Secretary of State’s Office to modernize operations and better serve the public through user-friendly technology and transparent service.
