Trowbridge Street School Won’t Reopen Monday, to Allow More Time for Deep Cleaning of Lead Dust
(MILWAUKEE) — Although significant progress has been made in addressing lead hazards at Trowbridge Street School for Great Lakes Studies, recent retesting by the Milwaukee Health Department (MHD) shows that several areas require additional cleaning and remediation. For that reason, Trowbridge will not reopen Monday, March 10.
Results of the retesting are expected by midweek. If the school meets all clearance requirements, students and staff could potentially return as soon as Friday, March 14.
MPS will provide a reopening date as soon as results are available. No announcement will be made before midweek.
On Monday, March 3, students and staff from Trowbridge Street School, 1943 E. Trowbridge St., temporarily relocated to MPS’s Wisconsin Conservatory of Lifelong Learning, 1017 N. 12th St. MHD required relocation after finding elevated levels of lead dust in the school, to allow the school to undergo deep cleaning.
