#MUBB Dominates Seton Hall, 80-56

MILWAUKEE The No. 16/15 Marquette University men’s basketball team continued BIG EAST play with a 80-56 win over Seton Hall on Tuesday night at Fiserv Forum.

The Golden Eagles (20-6, 11-4 BIG EAST) had three players in double figures led by Kam Jones who had 14 points, five assists and four rebounds.

Chase Ross had 11 points and a career-high five assists, while Ben Gold hit double digits with 10 points and six rebounds.

The Golden Eagles led by as many as 31 in the second half, the second-largest lead over a BIG EAST opponent this season. MU led by 32 in the second half at Providence on Dec. 31, 2024.

The Pirates (7-19, 2-13 BIG EAST) were led by Isaiah Coleman, who had 13 points, four rebounds and three assists.

After being tied early at 7-7, Marquette went on a 34-12 run over the final 15 minutes of the half to go into the break up 17.

NOTABLE

  • Jim Chones, who is the 10th player to be recognized and first since Dwyane Wade in 2007, had his No. 22 jersey retired at halftime.
  • Oso Ighodaro received the 79th annual Robert L. and William P. McCahill Award pregame, the highest honor bestowed upon a Marquette student-athlete.
  • Tre Norman tied his career-high of nine points and hit a career-best five free throws.
  • Second time in last six meetings MU won by 20-or-more points over SHU.
  • The Golden Eagles shot above .500 from the floor (.536) for the second time (.508 at Butler on Jan. 28) this season in BIG EAST play. MU shot 37.1 percent from the floor in the first meeting at SHU on Jan. 21 in Newark.
  • Forward Ben Gold snapped a six-game skid from deep with a pair of 3-pointers. Gold was just 2-of-13 from deep since a 3-of-5 performance on Jan. 21 at SHU. That game also marked the last time he reached double figures with 11 points.
  • MU’s 30 bench points is its second-highest total of the year and most since the bench had 37 points against Western Carolina on Nov. 30, 2024.
  • It is the fourth time this season and first in BIG EAST play that Marquette had 10-or-more players score a bucket.
  • MU freshman Damarius Owens hit both 3-point attempts and scored eight points, tying his highest total in BIG EAST play, also recorded against SHU on Jan. 21.

UP NEXT: Marquette heads on the road to take on Villanova on Friday, February 21 in downtown Philadelphia. The game is broadcast live on FS1 at 6 p.m. Central time.
