Supervisor Martin Weddle Calls for Safe Summer
Cites Shooting of Five-Year-Old, Pedestrian Traffic Tragedy as Reasons to Remain Vigilant
Milwaukee County Supervisor Martin Weddle today asked Milwaukee County residents to be vigilant and safe this summer after a five-year old was shot in an incidence of gun violence and a 70-year-old man was struck and killed by a school bus in Weddle’s district on the north side of the City of Milwaukee.
“You can’t be too safe,” Weddle said. “You can’t be too vigilant. Summer is a time when people are outside, children are playing and residents are spending more time outdoors. I urge everyone to be aware of their surroundings. Needless to say, watch for traffic as you’re out and about, but also be aware of potentially dangerous situations in our neighborhoods.
Weddle expressed his condolences to the family of the man killed by the school bus, and he expressed his concern for the five-year-old and his family.
“It’s common sense, but I urge everyone to be safe, no matter their circumstances, and contact authorities about suspicious behavior or crime in their area.”
Weddle is a supporter of Project Safe and Sound, which was founded with the theory that improvements in public safety require the combination of law enforcement, community organizing and youth development.
“Project Safe and Sound has done a great deal to make our community safer and more livable,” Weddle said. “I applaud their efforts, but I urge everyone in the community to be part of an effort to make our neighborhoods safe, secure and empowered.”
