Rep. Vining Applauds Gov. Evers’ Violence Prevention Executive Order: Gov. Evers Takes Action When Republicans Won’t
Madison–Governor Evers signed Executive Order #254 today, establishing the Wisconsin Office of Violence Prevention.
“Gun violence is a public health crisis. If we want to create a safe community for everyone to grow and thrive, we need to address violence before it occurs. Wisconsinites want a place to raise their families without the fear that the next terrible gun-related tragedy will impact them.
“The Wisconsin Office of Violence Prevention will be funded by federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds and will provide grants to school districts, firearm dealers, law enforcement agencies, non-profits, and local governmental agencies to support violence reduction initiatives. Violence is a statewide problem with statewide consequences, and this new office will establish a statewide response to address violence across Wisconsin.
“I advocated for violence prevention funding to be included in the previous state budget and was a co-sponsor of 2023 Assembly Bill 931 to create a statewide Office of Violence Prevention to award grants to support effective violence prevention initiatives in communities. I applaud Governor Evers for taking action to prevent violence in our communities when legislative Republicans have so far refused to do so.
“Violence prevention is an issue where we can find common ground for the common good, and together we can prevent violence in Wisconsin. Forward, together.”
Rep. Vining represents the 13th Assembly District, which includes Elm Grove, and parts of Wauwatosa and Brookfield. For more information visit Rep. Vining’s website here.
