MILWAUKEE – David Axelrod, a former adviser to President Barack Obama and founding director of the University of Chicago Institute of Politics, will be the featured guest in an upcoming “On the Issues with Mike Gousha,” Tuesday, June 2, from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m. in Eckstein Hall, 1215 W. Michigan St.
A 40-year veteran of American politics and journalism, Axelrod was the senior strategist to then-Sen. Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign and served in the same role during the 2012 reelection campaign. He also served in the White House as senior adviser to the president.
As a political consultant, Axelrod has managed media and communications strategy for 150 local, state and national campaigns. Before working in politics, he was a reporter and columnist for the Chicago Tribune. In his 2015 book, Believer: My Forty Years in Politics, Axelrod writes that he was drawn to politics because he believed “it was about big, noble ideas. It was about history and historic change.”
