Two Marquette alumni and founders of local craft breweries Broken Bat Brewery and Gathering Place Brewing have created a new beer. The beer, named Ring Out Ahoya, is a lager created by alumni for alumni and will be released in early November to coincide with the start of the college basketball season.

Broken Bat founder Tim Pauly and Gathering Place founder Joe Yeado helped lead previous Marquette-related beer projects with a student-run venture called Blue & Gold Brewing. They mentored and advised two cohorts of students who developed ‘77 Golden Ale in 2023 and The Beer Can Cream Ale in 2024. When Blue & Gold Brewing shared they were not continuing the beer project, Pauly and Yeado wanted to continue building on past success.

“Having built Blue & Gold Brewing Co. from the ground up over the last 2+ years was nothing short of a career highlight,” said Pauly, a 2010 grad. “The two student cohorts that we worked with blew away expectations, the hours and effort put into the projects were tremendous, and the results over the last 2 years were nothing short of spectacular – highlighted by the support of our incredible community. Joe and I are proud to continue the momentum with this perfect Game Day beer, brewed by alumni – for alumni. Ring Out Ahoya!”

Ring Out Ahoya is a crisp and refreshing lager made with locally-sourced malt from Briess Malting in Chilton, WI. The beer shares a name with the university fight song and will be available in cans at stores throughout the metro area and on tap at local bars and restaurants. The beer will also be distributed to select accounts in the Chicagoland area.

“We really enjoyed working with students and helping create beers that resonated with the alumni community,” said Yeado, a 2007 graduate. “We showed there is a demand for this product and I’m excited to continue working with Tim to share a great beer with other alumni and supporters.”

Both breweries opened to the public in 2017, with Broken Bat Brewery launching in the Third Ward and Gathering Place Brewing in the Riverwest neighborhood. The breweries have both grown over time with Broken Bat moving to a new location in the Walker’s Point neighborhood and Gathering Place opening a second location in Wauwatosa.
