MADISON — Gov. Tony Evers and First Lady Kathy Evers today attended the opening ceremonies of the 2024 Wisconsin State Fair, where the governor announced he is proclaiming Aug. 10, 2024, as “Cream Puff Day” across the state of Wisconsin in honor of the 100th anniversary of the Original Cream Puff. A copy of the governor’s Cream Puff Day proclamation is available here. Gov. Evers and First Lady Kathy Evers have gone to the Wisconsin State Fair together for 55 years.

“Whether you enjoy cream puffs straight out of the box or do it ‘Evers Style’ and take a few home and freeze them to enjoy later like Kathy and I do, cream puffs are a one-of-a-kind Wisconsin delicacy that we’ve been lucky enough to indulge in for a century now,” said Gov. Evers. “That’s why I’m proud to announce that, this year, I’m proclaiming August 10th, 2024, as Cream Puff Day in Wisconsin to celebrate 100 years of this time-honored State Fair tradition and all of the good folks who help make it happen!”

The Wisconsin State Fair attracts hundreds of thousands of attendees every year, and this year marks its 173rd anniversary and the 132nd year that it has called Wisconsin State Fair Park home, as well as 100 years of serving the Fair’s signature food item, the world-famous Original Cream Puff. First debuted at the State Fair in 1924 at the request of former Gov. John Blaine to showcase Wisconsin’s proud dairy industry, the Original Cream Puff is a light and airy sweet treat comprised of a halved choux pastry sprinkled with powdered sugar and filled with fresh whipped sweet cream made by the Wisconsin Bakers Association. To this day, Wisconsin’s dairy and agricultural industries continue to play a critical role in the lasting prevalence of the cream puff a century later.

In celebration of the Original Cream Puff’s 100th anniversary, this year’s Wisconsin State Fair will see four new limited-edition flavors available to the first 1,924 fairgoers on select days. This year’s specialty flavors include root beer float, raspberry cheesecake, English toffee, and chocolate birthday cake, in addition to the classic original.

Cream puffs can be found at four locations around the Wisconsin State Fair Park, including at their home base in the Original Cream Puff Pavilion, at the Cream Puff Express Window at the north end of the pavilion, and at two Cream Puff To-Go stands along Grandstand Avenue.

The governor also proclaimed August 1-11, 2024, as “Wisconsin State Fair Days,” as he has done annually, in recognition of the 2024 State Fair. A copy of the governor’s Wisconsin State Fair Days proclamation is available here.
