The 10th annual Bronzeville Sleepover for Education, a regular event held during Bronzeville Week, is set to take place beginning at 7 p.m. on Friday, August 9 and lasting until 8 a.m. on Saturday, August 10. Alderwoman Milele A. Coggs notes that donations for the annual event are now being accepted at various locations throughout the city. The event occurs outside at Dr. MLK Jr. Drive and North Ave.

“The Sleepover for Education helps ensure that students have the supplies necessary to start the new school year off on the right foot, and we greatly appreciate all donations,” said Alderwoman Coggs. “Community members are able to donate supplies at Pete’s Fruit Market located at 2323 N. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Dr., and we will be holding a special collection event at City Hall.”

Donations of school supplies can be dropped off in blue bins located in the first floor rotunda at City Hall, 200 E. Wells St., through the close of business daily this week. All supplies will be distributed to Milwaukee Public Schools students in need.

Sponsors for the Sleepover for Education include: Peace for Change Alliance, Inc.; Alderwoman Coggs; Pete’s Fruit Market; Milwaukee Police Department; the City of Milwaukee; American Family Insurance; Stark Foods; Save Our Souls (SOS); Milwaukee Public Schools; Judge Lena Taylor; Hupy and Abraham, County Supervisor Priscilla Coggs-Jones, Martin Luther King Jr. Center Advisory Board, and the Milwaukee Brewers.
