Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff Campaigns for Vice President Harris in Central Wisconsin
Second Gentleman Douglas Emhoff campaigned for Vice President Kamala Harris today in Wausau and Stevens Point, delivering remarks at the 7th Annual Hmong Wausau Festival with Governor Tony Evers and Senator Tammy Baldwin and launching a canvass with grassroots volunteers in Stevens Point.
A key event in Wausau, the Hmong Wausau Festival showcases the Hmong community and their history, sports, music, and art. With 50,000 Hmong residents in Wisconsin and over 7,000 in Marathon County alone, making up roughly 12% of Wausau’s population, the Second Gentleman’s visit to Wausau underscored the Harris campaign’s commitment to building the large and diverse coalition needed to win Wisconsin this November. The Second Gentleman’s visit on Saturday follows Vice President Harris’ event in the Milwaukee area on Tuesday — her first as the likely Democratic nominee for President — that was attended by over 3,500 supporters.
“This community right here could tip the vote in this state, which could change the direction of the entire election,” said Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff today. “You have the power, right here in this Hmong community. You have more power than you realize. Your coming together as a community could really dictate the results of this election.”
“The Hmong community has made Central Wisconsin their home for nearly 50 years, and the Second Gentleman’s visit is both historic and warmly embraced by our community,” said Yee Leng Xiong, Chair of the Executive Committee for the Hmong Wausau Festival. “We look forward to working together to create a brighter future for our community.”
In Stevens Point, to mark 100 days until November 5th and Wisconsin Democrats’ Weekend of Action across the state, the Second Gentleman headlined a canvass launch before grassroots volunteers knocked doors for Vice President Harris and Democrats up and down the ballot.
