MILWAUKEE — Dr. Christopher Okunseri, professor in the Marquette University School of Dentistry, was one of seven faculty members nationally to be recognized as a fellow by the American Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research, the nation’s premier dental research society, during its annual meeting March 13 in New Orleans.

The AADOCR Fellows Program recognizes AADOCR leaders and individuals who have served AADOCR in various ways throughout their careers. Through this program, AADOCR strengthens its mission to drive dental, oral and craniofacial research to advance health and well-being.

“This is a great honor for Dr. Okunseri and reflective of his commitment to both the dental profession and the advancement of dental research,” said Dr. Elsbeth Kalenderian, dean of the School of Dentistry. “Dr. Okunseri is a passionate advocate for dental public health and is working to remove some of the barriers to dental care that are contributing to the health disparities in this country through innovative research.”

Okunseri also serves as director of Marquette’s Predoctoral Program in Dental Public Health. He is also a diplomate for the American Board of Dental Public Health, an organization of which he is a former president. Additionally, Okunseri is an immediate past president of the Association of Nigerian Physicians in the Americas and serves as editor-in-chief of Clinical Cosmetic and Investigational Dentistry, an international, peer-reviewed open access journal focusing on the latest clinical and experimental research in dentistry with specific emphasis on cosmetic interventions.
