Bronzeville Arts Ensemble and Raising The Bar present Khloe’s Beautiful Blues play at King Community Center

MILWAUKEE, WI – (February 8, 2024) – February marks Black History Month, a time when communities come together to celebrate and reflect on the profound impact of African Americans throughout history. In honor of this month, Bronzeville Arts Ensemble and Raising The Bar proudly present “Khloe’s Beautiful Blues,” a captivating play written by La’Ketta Caldwell, at its new home, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center 1531 W. Vliet Street, Milwaukee, WI 53205.

Originally featured as a reading during the esteemed Black Theater Festival in 2022, “Khloe’s Beautiful Blues” has evolved under the direction of Cedric Gardner, a local choreographer recognized for his talents showcased on “So You Think You Can Dance” and his training under the renowned Debbie Allen. Adding to the richness of the production, an original song penned by the playwright with composer Jerry Weitzer will debut during the performance. The cast features Ciara Hart as “Khloe” and Tommy Canvas as “Mr. Clark.”

The production sets the stage for enlightenment and dialogue as it invites audiences to witness the complexities of identity, colorism, and bullying within the community. To extend its impact, four school shows are scheduled from February 20th-23rd, running from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM, offering students an immersive experience in storytelling and cultural exploration.

Following the Community Show on Saturday, February 24th, a thought-provoking talkback moderated by Bronzeville Arts Ensemble Producing Artistic Director, Sheri Williams Pannell, will feature esteemed panelists, including Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley, Amira Adams, Vanya Grice, Ebony Lewis, and Jasmine Tyler. Together, they will delve into the themes of the production, fostering a dialogue on the profound impact of colorism and bullying within our communities.
