A Better Wisconsin Together Commends Wisconsin State Supreme Court for Continuing Progress Toward Fair State Legislative Maps
MADISON, Wis. — Following a December 2023 Wisconsin Supreme Court ruling that the state’s current GOP-drawn state legislative maps are unconstitutional, court-appointed independent experts last night released their analysis of maps submitted by parties in the case.
According to the independent experts’ reports, the maps submitted by Republicans and right-wing intervenors Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty (WILL) were obvious partisan gerrymanders.
The analysis reports made public yesterday will be considered by the Wisconsin Supreme Court as the justices exercise their power to institute maps that are fair, unbiased, and up to constitutional standards.
“With these expert analyses now at their disposal, the Wisconsin Supreme Court can keep moving the state forward in replacing the unconstitutional maps in a timely manner, so that Wisconsin voters do not have to suffer through another election under maps that violate our ability to have a fair say in decisions that impact our lives,” said Browne. “We’re thankful the court majority is giving fair maps a fair shot in Wisconsin.”
