Senator Baldwin Delivers Additional $9.3 Million for Port Milwaukee
Baldwin-secured federal investments will support Made in Wisconsin workers, goods, and businesses
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) announced she helped deliver $9.3 million in U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) funds to expand Port Milwaukee’s newly opened Agriculture Maritime Export Facility (AMEF). The funding will support Phase 2 of the AMEF project, constructing two grain storage silos, purchasing additional grain handling equipment, and acquiring new equipment to move products between storage and vessels. In April, Senator Baldwin called on DOT Secretary Pete Buttigieg to fund this project.
“Today’s announcement of a more than $9mil Port Infrastructure Development Program (PIDP) Grant from the US Department of Transportation will allow Port Milwaukee to construct Phase 2 of the Agriculture Maritime Export Facility,” said Mayor Cavalier Johnson. “This grant further cements Port Milwaukee as a vital hub for international agricultural commerce, which benefits not only the City of Milwaukee but the entire State of Wisconsin. Once again, Sen. Baldwin has been the City of Milwaukee’s champion on bringing more federal dollars to support essential projects in Milwaukee. I am very grateful for the support of President Biden, Sec. Buttigieg, and Sen. Baldwin on the awarding of this PIDP Grant for Port Milwaukee.”
“Port Milwaukee is grateful for the continued support of both Senator Baldwin and the U.S. Dept. of Transportation – Maritime Administration (MARAD), and this second Port Infrastructure Development Program (PIDP) grant award for the Agricultural Maritime Export Facility (AMEF) Phase 2 project. This expansion project, in partnership with the DeLong Company, Inc., will increase capacity and allow for the simultaneous handling of multiple agricultural commodities, providing access for growers and producers from Wisconsin and surrounding states to efficiently move their products to international markets,” Jackie Q. Carter, Port Milwaukee Director said.
Senator Baldwin has long supported the AMEF, helping secure $15.9 million to establish the facility in 2020 to help Port Milwaukee complete Phase 1 of the project, which established the Agricultural Maritime Export Facility on the west side of Jones Island to improve transportation infrastructure at the Port, expand Wisconsin’s agribusiness access to international markets, and create new jobs in Milwaukee.
