Our night starts out with a little Milwaukee Ballet instruction to limber us up for a night of salsa and bachata! Ballet Beat brings the ballet to our backyards.
Washington Park Wednesdays celebrates the thrill and vibrancy of the Milwaukee Latin culture starting with headliners Latin Sound System, supported by Septeto Charambó. Charambó is a word that came to life by combining two different names of rhythms from the Caribbean; Charanga and Bomba. Alberto, a veteran band director has performed and directed ensembles backing and supporting many international artists. Through Septeto Charambo, Alberto aims to strengthen the legacy of Salsa music in Milwaukee.
The Latin Sound System is an eclectic mix of Americana and Latin fusion. The group has been performing together for 6 years and the members are very well known in the Latin community and abroad. Victor Campos, guitar and lead vocals hails from Columbia, his diverse musical background reflects in his playing. Joel Diaz – Keyboards. Joey Sanchez – Bass guitar, Salvador Santiago – Drums, and Thomas Vegas, Jr. – Percussion all come from Puerto Rico and bring a wide range of Latin styles to the mix. Their niche is combining popular American music with Latin and Caribbean feel to make an exciting and different experience for their audiences.
WPN MISSION
Washington Park Neighbors seek to provide audiences from the neighborhoods surrounding Washington Park with the opportunity to experience a wide variety of cultural entertainment through its quality and diverse programming in an historical venue on the West Side of Milwaukee.
WPN began a mentorship program that pairs youth interns with professional sound technicians learning the ropes with The New State AND a partnership with Art Intersection MKE owner Derrick Cainion and DJC Interpreting Services mentoring interns from UW-Milwaukee‘s ASL Interpreter Training Program. WPN is here to teach, learn and grow at Washington Park Wednesdays.
