Pride echoes throughout Milwaukee during June
Statement of Alderwoman JoCasta Zamarripa June 20, 2023
Every year during the month of June we celebrate Pride Month with parades, festivals, music, colorful flags, and much more. The Pride movement has grown each and every year to become more inclusive, diverse, and vibrant throughout our city as we use this tremendous platform to recognize the past trials, current contributions, and future prospects of the LGBTQ+ community.
This year, Milwaukee celebrated Pride Month with its 35th Pride Fest, and 19th Pride Parade. It warms my heart every year to see our community rally with support and love for all of our city and state’s LGBTQ+ members.
Though they have only been a formal group for a short time, The Hive has done tremendous work thus far to achieve their mission and ensure all LGBTQ+ employees feel welcome and supported in their place of work. This is just one of the many advocacy groups that exists in Milwaukee, and I look forward to all the great things they will accomplish in the future.
As we start to wind down another Pride Month, I hope to keep this momentum and energy going well beyond the month of June as there is still more work to be done to combat violence against our transgender community, and strengthen civil rights protections for LGBTQ+ people and families, among other issues.
Happy Pride Month Milwaukee!
