Have an ice day in the heart of Milwaukee! Milwaukee Downtown, BID #21 announces a growing slate of winter events at Red Arrow Park’s “Slice of Ice” rink. In collaboration with downtown partners, the organization will host the return of Downtown Ice CAPE-ade, a superhero-themed skating event with free ice skate rentals sponsored by WaterStone Bank, and “Broadway Skates” featuring Disney’s FROZEN.

Celebrate local heroes with the return of “Downtown Ice CAPE-ade” at Red Arrow Park’s “Slice of Ice” rink on Saturday, Feb. 11 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Families can join popular costumed superheroes for an epic afternoon of fun, plus meet everyday heroes from the Milwaukee Fire Department, Milwaukee Police Department, and DASH Speedskating from the Pettit National Ice Center. Attendees can dress up as their favorite hero or grab one of the limited number of capes for giveaway. Guests will also enjoy free ice skate rentals from WaterStone Bank, a bookmark-making station by Glow Bug Books, and a meet-and-greet with current USOA Miss Wisconsin Zoe Rucinsky.

Fans of the Disney’s FROZEN can skate alongside professional figure skaters during “Broadway Skates” at Red Arrow Park’s “Slice of Ice” rink on Saturday, Feb. 18 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. In partnership with the Marcus Performing Arts Center and the newly formed Milwaukee Theater District, the event will feature professional figure skating performances by Ice Theatre MKE and Wisconsin Figure Skating Club, a larger-than-life “show globe” photo-op, ice sculptures featuring characters from FROZEN, and special FROZEN giveaways available on a first-come, first-served basis. The Marcus Performing Arts Center will host Disney’s FROZEN the Broadway Musical, April 6 – 16, 2023. The “Broadway Skates” event series debuted with HAIRSPRAY in January. “Our efforts in embracing winter and activating our public spaces have been tremendously successful,” said Beth Weirick, CEO of Milwaukee Downtown, BID #21. “We’ve seen an amazing turnout thus far, but we know it’s only the tip of the iceberg! There’s still plenty more in store for our remaining weeks of winter.”

Milwaukee Downtown, BID #21 has curated a list of winter downtown-wide events at the organization’s website, www.milwaukeedowntown.com. Its “Winter in the City” page includes other family-friendly activities such as “Lightfield” by HYBYCOZO at Cathedral Square Park and Taste & Toast, which returns February 27 – March 3.

In addition, the page also highlights Downtown Milwaukee’s skywalk system – a 1.75-mile temperature-controlled network connecting hotels, attractions, restaurants and more – as well as a map of downtown’s public art – some contained within the skywalk system. Downtown Ice CAPE-ade, sponsored by WaterStone Bank, is coordinated by Milwaukee Downtown BID #21 in partnership with Milwaukee County Parks. “Broadway Skates” is presented by Marcus Performing Arts Center, the Milwaukee Theater District, Milwaukee Downtown, BID #21, and Milwaukee County Parks.
