Supervisor Martin Applauds Arrival of 73 New Clean Diesel Buses

MILWAUKEE – County Supervisor Felesia A. Martin praised the announcement that Milwaukee County Transit System (MCTS) is continuing to modernize public transit in Milwaukee County by adding 73 new clean diesel buses.

“These new clean diesel buses will play a key role in improving air quality for Milwaukee County residents and aligns directly with our goal of becoming the healthiest county in Wisconsin,” said Supervisor Martin.

All 334 buses in the MCTS fleet are now clean diesel, resulting in more reliable rides, reduced emissions, and improved health outcomes for residents.

The 73 new clean diesel buses are designed to comply with all federal emission regulations. In comparison to the outdated vehicles they will be replacing, the new buses are specially designed to remove hazardous materials from exhaust emissions. This improvement will reduce the exposure of Milwaukee County residents to particulate pollution and other harmful toxins in the air.

Investment by MCTS in new clean diesel buses was made possible due to a combination of funding sources. Supervisor Martin celebrated the collaboration of federal and local leaders in securing formula grants.

“This would not have happened without the hard work of U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin, Congresswoman Gwen Moore, and the Southeastern Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission,” said Supervisor Martin. “We are grateful for their dedication to this effort.”

The 73 new clean diesel buses will join the MCTS fleet and begin serving riders by this Autumn.
