Democratic Party of Wisconsin Statement on May Jobs Report
MADISON, Wis. – Today, the May jobs report showed the U.S. added 390,000 new jobs in May, which was higher than predictions expected. This report follows a year of record job growth across the country and a record low unemployment rate in Wisconsin – all thanks to President Biden, Governor Evers, and Democrats in Congress supporting Wisconsin-owned businesses and getting Wisconsinites back to work.
“Today’s jobs report is further proof that President Biden’s economic agenda is working. Without the support of a single Republican in Congress, Democrats’ American Rescue Plan has spurred a historically fast economic recovery by supporting Main Street businesses across the Badger State.
“Wisconsin Democrats and President Biden know that our economy faces other challenges – which is why Democrats have remained laser-focused on tackling inflation and cutting costs for working families. Meanwhile, Republican politicians have proposed a plan that could raise taxes on one in three Wisconsinites and jeopardize the retirement benefits of seniors. It’s pretty simple: Wisconsin families cannot afford the Republican plan, and Wisconsin Democrats will continue fighting to put money in the pockets of working families.”
