Supervisor Gerry Broderick Says County Executive’s Proposed Budget Projects Unrealistic Savings, Places Burden on the Backs of County Employees
Also Urges More Investment in County Infrastructure, Maintenance
Milwaukee County Supervisor Gerry Broderick today criticized the County Executive’s proposed 2015 budget, saying it contained unrealistic future savings and balanced the budget on the backs of County employees. The County Executive presented his proposed budget in an address to the County Board Wednesday morning.
“Once the rhetorical frosting is scraped from the County Executive’s budget presentation, we are left with the same old cake made up of more privatization, continuing losses for hard-working employees and unrealistic future savings projected as a rationale for continuing to defer much-needed maintenance of County-owned assets,” Broderick said.
Broderick also characterized the budget proposal as showing an obsession with debt while ignoring maintenance and infrastructure needs.
“The County Executive’s obsession with debt reduction misses the point,” Broderick said. “Many of us believe that investing in our infrastructure while interest rates are low could be done, providing a great public benefit long-term. Instead he chooses to put costs on the backs of employees. He’s as out of touch with the working person’s experience as the rest of his House of Lords.”
