City departments to detail anti-eviction measures, results at committee meeting
This week, various City of Milwaukee departments will discuss ways they are working to keep tenants from being evicted in the face of a major increase in eviction proceedings affecting rental properties across the city.
Common Council file #211794 – sponsored by Alderwoman Milele A. Coggs – will be taken up by the Community and Economic Development Committee at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday (March 9). The measure will bring various City agencies to the committee meeting to discuss anti-eviction strategies and programs, particularly their status and outcomes to-date.
“Additionally, there has been a significant investment of federal ARPA (American Rescue Plan Act) dollars that both the city and county have made into efforts to assist those who have been evicted, and it’s important for the Council to receive an update of where we are at in the city with evictions – as well as outcomes – from the organizations that are supposed to be helping residents deal with eviction,” she said.
Wednesday’s Community and Economic Development Committee meeting will be televised live on the City Channel (channel 25 on Spectrum Cable and channel 99 on AT&T U-Verse in the City of Milwaukee) and via streaming video on the city website at city.milwaukee.gov/Channel25.
