Milwaukee County Clerk Christenson Allowed State Auditors Access to 2020 Election Records
MILWAUKEE – Milwaukee County Clerk George Christenson issued the following statement in response to erroneous claims that the Milwaukee County Clerk’s Office denied the Legislative Audit Bureau (LAB) access to the 2020 Presidential Election ballots:
“I need to once again emphasize and remind all those who claim that Milwaukee County did not allow LAB auditors to view and analyze ballots from the 2020 Presidential Election that this is simply not true,” said Clerk Christenson.
The totality of the LAB request was as follows:
- All accepted and rejected absentee certificate envelopes;
- Voting machine tapes and test ballot decks for pre-election voting machine tests;
This request involved the following municipalities:
- City of Glendale
- City of Wauwatosa
- Village of Shorewood
- Village of Whitefish Bay
- Village of Bayside
- City of Milwaukee
A subsequent request was made for EL-104 (Inspector’s statements) documentation from the following municipalities:
- City of Glendale
- Village of Shorewood
- Village of Whitefish Bay
- Village of Bayside
- City of Milwaukee
“These materials were provided to LAB during their auditors’ visit on August 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. No other materials were requested but were certainly available for their inspection,” Christenson added.
“The Legislative Audit Bureau did not even ask to review our ballots. If they had, we had staff available to assist with the inspection of the ballots. This is yet another attempt to ‘cry wolf’ by certain Republican lawmakers. The voters of Wisconsin, including conservatives, are seeing right through the lies,” Christenson concluded.
On Friday, October 22 LAB released its audit report of the 2020 Presidential Election which concluded that the election was accurate, safe, and secure. The report made it clear that vote totals in the 2020 election were accurate, that no processes were identified that could have changed the outcome, and that no evidence of widespread fraud of any type was discovered.
