MPD Officer Involved Shooting
Statement from the Milwaukee Police Department
On Thursday, August 26, 2021, at approximately 6:50 p.m., Milwaukee Police officers observed a reckless vehicle on N. 39th Street and W. North Avenue. Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop but the driver fled and a vehicle pursuit ensued.
The pursuit ended when the suspect’s vehicle crashed on the 2800 block of N. 41st Street. The driver fled on foot and a foot pursuit ensued. The suspect was armed with a handgun and refused to drop the gun after several commands. Two officers discharged their firearms subsequently striking him.
The suspect, a 33-year-old Milwaukee man, sustained life-threatening injuries. He was transported to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. No one else was injured as a result of the gunfire. The suspect’s firearm was recovered.
The officers involved in this incident are a 31-year-old male officer with over 3 years of service and a 29-year-old male officer with over 4 years of service. They were placed on administrative duty as is routine in an officer involved shooting.
This is a fluid and ongoing investigation. The Milwaukee Area Investigative Team will be investigating this incident. The Waukesha Police Department will be the lead law enforcement agency in the investigation.
