The Heartland Short Film To Be Screened Tonight as Part of Bronzeville Week
Panel discussion to take place immediately following the screening.
2021 Bronzeville Week – hosted by Alderwoman Milele A. Coggs and sponsored by Historic King Drive Business Improvement District 8, Alderwoman Coggs, the City of Milwaukee, American Family Insurance, and the Milwaukee County Office on African American Affairs – will include a special screening of “The Heartland” tonight at 6 p.m. The event will take place at the Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra, 325 W. Walnut St.
The film, created by Milwaukee-based filmmaker Marquise Mays, follows three Black Milwaukee residents as they explore the city’s culture. Following the screening there will be a moderated panel featuring: Marquise Mays, Director; RJ Prince, Producer; Radaya Ellis, Researcher at Ubuntu Research & Evaluation; and Matthew Lewis, Program Manager – Director of Pathways at Public Allies Milwaukee. The panel will be moderated by Alexandria Mason, Multimedia Producer/Journalist.
Masks will be required for attendees. The screening is free but space is limited. Those interested can register here. The event is sponsored by Life is a Mays, Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra, Nō Studios, Social X, Pete’s Fruit Market, Alderwoman Coggs and the City of Milwaukee.
