Marquette senior director honored with Excellence in University Service Award
MILWAUKEE — Mary Czech-Mrochinski, senior director in the Office of Public Affairs, is the recipient of a 2021 Excellence in University Service Award.
The Excellence in University Service Awards recognize staff members for their contributions to the essential work of Marquette at the highest level of excellence. Candidates are nominated based on meritorious service that is above and beyond the duties normally assigned to their positions.
“I am blessed to work with so many amazing Marquette colleagues each day, so it is humbling to receive an award that recognizes the success of our collective teamwork,” Mary says. “My parents, the late Dr. Donald and Corrine Czech, were first-generation college students and they were proud to watch me carry on my father’s history of service to our students and community. I am grateful to my husband, Jeff, and our children, Kate and Paul, for their unconditional love and support which allows me to live out the work I have been called to do.”
According to her many nominations, Mary is known for her relentless efforts to be the difference for the Marquette community and beyond. She is revered as an inspirational leader and a confident, sought-after problem solver, and she does this thoughtfully, with purpose and with consideration for her team members.
One person who nominated Mary calls her “the facilitator, the leader, the negotiator or the doer on so many varied projects,” adding that that Mary “leads with our students first in mind and always how to best serve the university.”
Others mentioned how she constantly thinks of others in everything she does to make others’ jobs easier.
Another person who nominated her wrote, “Mary’s unparalleled commitment to Marquette, her tenacious drive, and her care and respect for others is what sets her apart from other candidates. Her willingness to push boundaries and accomplish what is necessary is unmatched by anyone else. Mary is one of a handful of my go-to people on campus. No matter what the subject, I know if I ask Mary to help me with something and/or be a part of a team working on a project, she will say yes. I have never heard Mary say, ‘That’s not my job.’ She will do anything to help Marquette and does not seek credit.”
