PARK(ing) Day Comes to Milwaukee
“The mission of PARK(ing) Day is to call attention to the need for more urban open space, to generate critical debate around how public space is created and allocated, and to improve the quality of urban human habitat … at least until the meter runs out!”
PARK(ing) Day takes place on September 17th, 2010 and is quite simply a public space intervention. In over 100 cities on four continents urbanists will be reclaiming public space, parking spots, for public use. They may setup a park, a public art display, or even a ping pong table, but the goal is to show how we can better utilize our public space to create a higher quality urban environment.

To find out more about PARK(ing) Day or just say hi, come visit us between noon and 2 pm on Milwaukee St. near Mason this Friday. If you’re interested in partaking in the fun with us, bring a chair, there will be plenty of room.

@Juli Thanks we’ll have a simply setup, you’ll see some great ones in NYC… Next year it would be great to get a group involved to do something a little more creative.

sounds like a liability for the City…do you have insurance? I’d hate to see a park’er’ get hit.

@Bill Yeah I need to update that as I was notified of this error, this week.. But in fact the first parking day was sponsored by IN:SITE, but not in 2007, it was 2006 on Vilet Street.
To clarify: IN:SITE has done two PARK(ing) projects in Milwaukee in the past. You can find them in the archives on the IN:SITE website. One on Vliet Street (2006) and one in Bay View (2007)…
