MADISON – Wisconsin Conservation Voters is in solidarity with those calling for racial justice and accountability in the wake of growing Anti-Asian violence in recent months. The most public being the tragic murder of eight people, six of whom were Asian American women, in a targeted, hateful attack in Atlanta on March 16.

We are calling on all legislators to support the passage of Joint Resolution LRB 2576 & LRB 2572, introduced by Rep. Francesca Hong and Sen. Melissa Agard. The resolution condemns violence against the Asian Pacific Islander Desi American (APIDA) community and calls for our leaders, at all levels, to commit the United States to serving as a world leader in building more inclusive, diverse, and tolerant communities.

Wisconsin Conservation Voters calls on Assembly Speaker Robin Vos and Senate Majority Leader Devin LeMahieu to schedule Joint Resolution LRB 2576 & LRB 2572 for a vote in the legislature when they are on the floor this week.

The targeted murders of Asian Americans in Atlanta is yet another example of the systemic and pervasive racism that makes Black, Indigenous, and people of color in our country fear for their families’ health, safety, and lives every day.

Racial justice and environmental justice are inseparable. Black, Indigenous, and people of color who are marginalized by systemic racism and violence are also the most harmed by climate change, dirty air, and dirty water. As an organization that envisions a world with clean air, clean water, public lands, and a safe climate – all protected by a just and equitable democracy – we understand we are all only as safe as those members of our community who are most at risk.

We are committed to taking anti-racist action. We recognize the leadership of the Asian American Pacific Islander Coalition of Wisconsin (AAPI-WI) and we stand with them in calling for justice, accountability, and an end to violence. You can find out more about AAPI-WI’s work and how to support them here: https://www.facebook.com/AAPIWI/
