Gov. Evers, First Lady Evers Receive First Dose of COVID-19 Vaccine
MADISON — Gov. Tony Evers today received his first vaccine dose for COVID-19 at SSM Health in Madison. At 69 years old, the governor received the vaccine as a member of the eligible population under the state’s currently eligible populations which includes individuals over the age of 65. First Lady Kathy Evers received her first dose of the vaccine earlier this week.
“I always said that just like every other Wisconsinites, Kathy and I would wait our turn and wait for our number to be called. With nearly a third of Wisconsinites over the age of 65 having received their first dose of the vaccine, Kathy and I were contacted by our healthcare provider and are grateful to have had the opportunity this week to get our first doses of vaccine,” said Gov. Evers. “I want to thank the folks at SSM Health for making it simple and quick. I encourage every Wisconsinite to get the vaccine as soon as it is available to them—that’s how we are going to kick this pandemic to the curb for good and get back to our Wisconsin way of life.
As of Friday, February 12, 11.5 percent of Wisconsinites have received at least one dose of the vaccine, putting Wisconsin in the top ten states for the percentage of the population who have received at least one dose. In just under two months since the first vaccine arrive in Wisconsin, 901,333 vaccine doses have been administered across the state.
